NOMINATION

Hi this is Kellie Geist. I am secretary right now and love it. But, I would like to nominate myself for Vice President. But, I would like to say that since I have at least 3 more years...If someone of upperclass would like this position then I respect that and will still be happy with the secretary position. That said, I think that I would make a good VP because I have attended meetings, many outings, and have some leadership experience. Thank You and don't forget to post your nominations here on the BLOG by the 15th of April! Votes will be cast the following week via email to Prof. Green at Greenba@nku.edu. Thanks Everyone

In case you missed it, here is what the last meeting was all about.

-CSF'S MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHINGFor anyone interested in seeing this production with Dr. Green's class, please e-mail him by this Friday, April 1st at the absolute latest. Tickets are $13 for the April 8th production at 7:30pm. (greenba@nku.edu)
CREATIVE WRITING CONTESTFor poetry and fiction. Cash prizes for the winners. Deadline is April 15th. Submit entries with cover letter to Andy Miller in 522 Landrum. Names should appear on Cover Letter ONLY. Flyers will be up this week.
-POETRY READINGBecause April is Poetry Month, we thought it would be a good idea to have a poetry reading. We are looking at Thursday, April 14th from 2-4pm at Starbucks in the New Science Building. You can read original poetry, or read your favorite classic or contemporary poetry. Please come if you are available, it will be a great way to promote LaLink and have some fun doing so.
-SPRING DINNERWe tossed around the idea of having a Spring Potluck/Picnic Dinner at Dr. Miller's house in Clifton. I am meeting with him this week to discuss. Details to come later.
-OFFICER POSITIONSWe will have at least two positions open for LaLink officers next year: President and Vice President. Right Now Kellie Geist is Secretary and Maria Schneider is Treasurer. However, if either of you would like to move into another position, then these positions too could be available. Please post all nominations (for yourself or for another) on the BLOG by April 15th. Elections will be held via e-mail to Dr. Green that following week.
-BAKESALEWe would like to do a bakesale if anyone is available to make food and work. Mon, Tues, or Thurs. will work best, and we thought it might be fun to have some summer food. Please let me know if you are available for any of these days, and what you might be able to bring. Details will follow shortly.
-NEXT MEETING: WED APRIL 29TH @ 12 NOON in LA 531

Here are some Random, but important notes from Gwen Emails!

As mentioned at our last meeting, there will be a mini-book sale on Friday, March 4 in the UC center. We will only be putting out Fiction and Literary Criticism. Setup will be Thursday between 12:15pm and 3pm with a Friday evening takedown. This booksale will be primarily for the conference attendees, so we are hoping to make a good sale. PLEASE respond to let me know if you are available to set up, take down, or work the event. Also, some of you wanted to know if we would be able to sit in on the conferences. We will be able to participate. I will let you know the specifics shortly.

There is a box in 500 Landrum for the Food Drive. Any non-perishables are welcomed. Help out the club and the underpriveledged by bringing in whatever you can.

Let's do the meeting on Wed. Mar. 16.

Troilus and Cressida

Hi, everyone,

I've decided _not_ to get a group of tickets for Troilus and Cressida for two reasons. One, we don't have enough people to get the group discount. Two, it appears that none of the performances are going to sell out. That means that you can buy Student Rush tickets for only $10, which is cheaper than the group rate of $14, anyway. They go on sale about 20 minutes before the curtain. I'd suggest that those who have expressed get together at the theater and grab a few of these tickets.

--Barclay

I know several of us at the last meeting were interested in attending on Friday Feb. 25th. If anyone would like to go, I would be willing to carpool or meet up before hand to get tickets for the show. Comment to this post if you are interested... I'll check back soon to see if anyone wants to go together.

Here's the 411 on the meeting...LOL

Canned Food Drive
We will be participating in the Canned Food Drive on campus, which includes all non-perishable items. There will be a large box in 500 Landrum (the department office) as of Tuesday morning. Please bring what you can and instruct anyone you know to bring anything they can. At the end of the drive in April, we will collect not only our own box(es), but also help collect others from around campus. As the date gets closer, we will coordinate times that members can help out.
Cincinnati Shakesperare Festival
Dr. Green has invited LaLink to accompany his Shakespeare class to the Friday April 8th showing of Much Ado About Nothing. Tickets are $13, and money must be given to Dr. Green by Friday March 25th at the absolute latest. Feel free to invite a friend or two. Direct any questions to Dr. Green directly (greenba@nku.edu)
Dr. Green has also agreed to get a small group together on Friday February 25th to see Troilus and Cressida. We will need a total of 10 people to get the group rate of $15. All interested parties should contact Dr. Green by Wednesday Feb. 9th at the latest.
Mini Book Sale
There will be a mini book sale (fiction and literary criticism only) in the UC center on Friday March 4th. Setup will be Wed. or Thurs. evening, with a Friday eve. takedown. Please let me or Andy Miller know if you would be able to set up, work, or take down any of those days. Final dates and times will be announced soon.
Poetry Machine or T-Shirts?
It looks like we will have enough money to puchase either the Poetry Machine or t-shirts for LaLink. Which do you prefer? Send me and/or Andy an e-mail in the next week or so, so we can work out the logistics at the next meeting. In either case, we will need to get some fundraisers going. A bakesale was suggested for Mardi Gras and after Easter. Dates and locations will be announced.... any availability for baked goods or workers will be greatly appreciated.
Elections
Elections will need to be held this semester for the 2005-06 school year. Check the BLOG, there will soon be an entry regarding nominations and instructions. I'll send out another mail when it is ready to go. We will probably have a spring dinner to hold the actual elections.

An addtional e-mail will be sent out for the immediate things mentioned and the date/time of our next meeting.

Troilus and Cressida

If we can get 10 people together, Dr. Green has agreed to purchase group rate tickets for the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival's presentation of Troilus and Cressida. Please let him know ASAP... and if anyone needs a ride, comment at the bottom of this post and I'm sure we can work something out.

Date: Friday Feb. 25th, 7pm
Price: $15 with the group rate

e-mail or stop by to see Dr. Green by next Wednesday, Feb. 9th.

I just wanted to copy this email from Prof. Green for anyone's who interested

I have reserved a block of tickets for the Cincinnati Shakespeare Festival's production of Much Ado About Nothing. Students from my Shakespeare class will be going; if any of you are interested in going too, please let me know, and I'll set aside tickets for you. The tickets are for the 7:30 performance on Friday 8 April, and cost $13 (the group rate). Feel free to bring friends. If you'd like to go, please let me know, and please give me money by Friday 25 March.

Also, from Feb 17-Mar 6, the CSF will be staging a production of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida. While I'm not taking my Shakespeare class to this production, I'd be happy to arrange for a LaLink group to go, if we have enough people to get the group rate. If you're interested in going, please let me know at the meeting next week. If we get more than 10 people, we could get tickets for $14.

Finally, the Artistic Director of the CSF, Brian Philips, is giving a series of introductory talks at the Public Library (i.e., the one downtown) on the plays the CSF are performing this season. He'll be speaking on Troilus and Cressida on Feb 2 and on Much Ado About Nothing on Mar 9. Both talks begin at 7. If you're interested, you need to call 369-6991 to make a reservation. Philips is an interesting and entertaining guy, and I'm sure the talks will be informative and fun.

Welcome!

Hi everyone, this is Kellie! Gwen was still having trouble with IT getting the message board up and running, so I posed this idea. It is web log (Blog, Live Journal) if you are here then you got the website and login information from Gwen via email. We will be using this Blog to spawn ideas for outings and etc just like we had planned to do so with the message board. My email is directly linked as the 'runner' of this Blog so please don't post anything that is going to get me into trouble. To post an idea just log it (www.blogger.com)-or click the "E" in the top left corner of this page. That should take you to the "dashboard", once there click new post and type away. I hope that this version of a message board is effective. I will try to keep any updates as such. Thanks and Enjoy!
Yours Truly, Kellie
